Salary based on degree and experience.  Starting at $43,975.00 annually.  This will be prorated based on the start date.

 

This position works 7 hours per day and a 190 day school calendar.

POSITION SUMMARY:   Provide leadership in coordinating, managing and monitoring health services within the school for students, staff, and community. Facilitate the academic achievement of students by assisting in eliminating or mitigating health barriers to success.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Will assess and evaluate the total health and developmental status of each student through nursing assessment and evaluative techniques.
  2. Establish and maintain confidential health records, inputting data into the student information system.
  3. Facilitate awareness of provisions of Missouri Child Abuse Law.   Recognize signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect.
  4. Continuously monitor immunization compliance of all students.
  5. Identify and recommend exclusion of students and staff in early state of communicable disease.
  6. Work with school administration to address attendance issues related to health issues.
  7. Initiate individual health plan (IHP) for students to assist school personnel to meet special health care needs and monitor those special care procedures.
  8. Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, administrators and families to identify and provide for areas of need related to health issues.
  9. Administer medication in accordance with District policy.  Provide training for staff to administer medications as needed (i.e. field trips)
  10. Maintain close communication with parents of students with ongoing health needs or issues.
  11. Act as liaison between school/family/ medical providers as needed.
  12. Provide teacher/staff in-services regarding student health issues.
  13. Provide health counseling on request to students, parents and staff. 
  14. Refer students/families requiring intervention or treatment to outside agencies or resources.
  15. Participate on interdisciplinary school teams which address the identification of student needs.
  16. Administer PPD Tuberculosis skin tests if applicable, measure and record reaction and refer employees.
  17. Assist HPE teachers with Growth and Development/Personal Hygiene to 4th and 5th grade. 
  18. Conducts various health screenings to assess the health status of students.
  19. Serve as classroom resource consultant and resource teacher on health education topics as requested by the faculty. 
  20. Facilitate implementation of school emergency care system. 
  21. Attend monthly staff meetings.
  22. Attend monthly Health Services Department meetings.
  23. Serve as a resource for staff regarding wellness offerings provided throughout the district.
  24. Assure an unlicensed assistive person is trained in basic first aid, medication administration and common health room procedures, as backup for RN.
  25. Order and maintain health room supplies, within allotted budget.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.   BSN required.
  2. Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State Board of Nursing, State of Missouri.  
  3. Prefer experience with skills that have application to school nursing.
  4. Prefer experience pediatric/community health/psych.
  5. Certification in CPR including AED.
  6. Must possess basic computer skills.  Competency in Word and with internet based documentation system preferred.
