We are currently looking for a part-time Custodial Support Technician to join our team and help support our operations at the Babler Outdoor Education Center located in Babler State Park. Nestled in the valley of Babler State Park in West St. Louis County, the Babler Outdoor Education Center is a 300-acre facility offering unique outdoor education, environmental education, team building, and outdoor skills experiences for the community.

Starting salary: Starts at $18.32/hr

Building/district: Community Ed

Work Hours: Part-time, Monday-Friday, exact schedule to be determined

  

POSITION SUMMARY:      Provides a safe and clean environment for students, organizations, groups and other rentals and programs that take place at Rockwood managed property inside Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park. Performs cleaning tasks and general maintenance tasks per safe procedures and scheduled frequencies as directed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for sweeping, mopping and vacuuming various floor and wall surfaces with manual and mechanical equipment.
  2. Prepares dining hall for use, including setting up and breaking down tables and chairs.
  3. Cleans up after meal shifts.
  4. Clean all surfaces, equipment and furniture in buildings using appropriate supplies and equipment.
  5. Clean and disinfect restrooms.
  6. Empty trash and recycle cans, replace liners and monitor buildings and grounds and pick up debris.
  7. Vacuum pool, empty skimmers and other duties necessary to maintain clean, safe pool area.
  8. Maintain trails on foot using band tools.
  9. Facilitate group functions by setting up and cleaning, utilizing safe work practices.
  10. Provides general upkeep and cleanliness of the entire facility, inside and outside buildings.
  11. Remove snow and ice from exterior walks as required, ensuring safe pathways to needed buildings.
  12. Paint area of the facility, both indoor and outdoor as needed.
  13. Use chemicals as their labels indicate.
  14. Supports the staff of the OEC with whatever custodial related tasks are needed.
  15. Collaborate and communication with Park Maintenance staff to cover all areas and needs of the facility.
  16. Provide general maintenance and repair work to facility and equipment.
  17. Services equipment and various building components on a predetermined schedule to prevent future disruption in service and premature replacement.
  18. Keeps the building locked and secured.
  19. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions while remaining professional.
  20. Maintain a safe environment by identifying risks and reporting them or correcting them within scope of ability.
  21. Be prepared to assist in preparing reports on work-related injuries with the Supervisor as soon as possible after the incident, to include securing the names of witnesses and other pertinent data.
  22. Responsibly report work periods using Kronos or other time system as directed.
  23. Climbs ladders as needed.
  24. Seeks the advice of other staff or the supervisor in order to solve the maintenance problems unique to their experiences.
  25. Safely and legally operate a motor vehicle.
  26. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to perform necessary cleaning procedures to complete assigned duties throughout assigned location.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to recognize common safety and health hazards.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, twist, lift and move equipment and supplies, including lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion and 20-30 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to wear job-appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to safely transport vehicles and equipment.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  2. Valid driver's license.
  3. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  4. Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment and supplies, including precautions for use.
  5. Math skills sufficient to handle manufacturers' label instructions for dilution of chemicals used in cleaning.

  • dryer, upright vacuum, flat cart, two-wheeler, power washer, gas/electric blower, salt spreader, wet/dry vacuum, hand power tools, dust mop, spray bottles, micro fiber, band tools, snow shovel, putty knife, razor blades, pump sprayer, micro duster, toilet brush, ladders, chemical dispenser, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, wrenches, Allen keys, caulk guns, digging tools, measuring tools, paint brushes, rollers, and sanding blocks.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Indoors and outdoors at Rockwood managed facilities within Babler State Park.
  • Outside of buildings in all weather, including in inclement weather.
  • Must be flexible, various shifts or days of the week, including weekends.
  • This position is very active and requires the physical ability to enable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and lifting throughout each shift.
