ABOUT PARKWAY-ROCKWOOD COMMUNITY ED: 


Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a partnership of the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts that provides high-quality programs that enhance the quality of life for residents.


We are currently looking for a full-time supervisor to provide leadership in the planning, execution and supervision of the following:

  1. A comprehensive program lineup for youth, families and adults at the Babler Outdoor Education Center located at Babler State Park. Programming areas include outdoor education, experiential education and teambuilding.
  2. Rental of the Babler Outdoor Education Center by community groups, schools, etc. This includes identifying and creating relationships with potential rental groups to ensure a thorough understanding of their needs.
  3. Outdoor education, experiential learning and teambuilding programs at off-site locations within the St. Louis community, which can include schools, homeschool groups, etc.
  4. Additional Rec & Ed programs for youth, families, or adults in the areas such as art, enrichment or sports & fitness as needed.

The ideal candidate will exhibit the following:

  1. Ability to complete work in a fast-paced environment that is subject to continuous improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis
  2. Takes the initiative to understand Community Ed programs and its unique needs within the school district environment
  3. Builds relationships with internal constituents at 60+ Parkway and Rockwood schools
  4. Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  5. Proactively seek solutions to issues and contribute to problem-solving
  6. Attention to detail
  7. Team player with strong communication skills
  8. Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external audiences 
  9. Minimum 3-5 years experience leading outdoor education or recreation programs or a related field.

The position will have a primary office location at the Community Ed main office in Ellisville, MO as well
as a secondary office location at the Babler Outdoor Education Center inside Babler State Park.

 

In this job, no two days are the same.  You might meet with a school principal or school staff to set up a program at the Outdoor Education Center, work with the Recreation & Education team to achieve department goals, clean a cabin to get ready for the next group coming in, lead a hike for patrons of all ages and create new programs for youth, families and adults across Parkway and Rockwood locations. We are looking for an individual who has the skill set and initiative to take ownership of the position and take our outdoor education and recreation efforts to the next level.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
As part of the Community Ed team, the Recreation Supervisor provides direction in the planning,
execution, and evaluation of the recreation to drive program enrollment, promote hiring, and build public
awareness of Community Ed.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Create programs by sending out proposal forms, interviewing candidates, and creating a program lineup 
2. Create budgets based on revenue expectations set by the Lead Rec & Ed Supervisor.
3. Recruit, train, manage, schedule, and evaluate assigned program staff 

4. Create relationships with any stakeholders that impact programming and make sure they understand Community Ed as a whole
5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Rec & Ed Supervisor
6. Work with the marketing team to educate them on programs and help generate ideas on marketing plan.
7. Collaborate with the Community Ed Inclusion Specialist to ensure participant success in programs by
conveying a thorough understanding of program parameters and incorporating training for staff as needed.
8. Work with the operations team on processes and procedures related to tasks to support programming
9. Develop and manage the budget for the assigned program, ensuring the use of funds in an efficient and effective manner
10. Participate in and provide relevant and accurate marketing/communications insight as a member of the Community Education management team and on department-wide committees.
11. Be an active member who participates as scheduled representing the functional area
 
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to train staff to effectively meet program needs.
2. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
3. Ability to bend, twist, and manipulate equipment, supplies, and mail.
4. Ability to access all locations including uneven or hilly terrain as needed.
 
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and appropriate certification as required by the area to be supervised.
2. Experience working in the area of supervision.
3. Possess computer skills needed to effectively perform job duties.
 
EQUIPMENT USED: 
1. Standard office equipment.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
1. Ability to work in a variety of locations, travel throughout the District and work non-traditional hours
which may include evenings and weekends. 
2. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and
reach.
